Buy-Me Button™ Database Upload
Instructions:
1. To upload products into the Buy-Me Button™ catalog a Tab Delimited Text File of the products must be created on your local computer. An explanation of what a Tab Delimited File is listed below.
2. Go to the website where you would normally add a Buy-Me Button™ to your store. You will see a hyperlink that reads:
"Click Here To Import All Of Your Products From Your Database"
Click on this hyperlink to start your upload process.
3. Ensure each line of the file is consistent with this format:
Product Number, Product Description, Price, Weight
4. The file must be saved as a Text File (.txt), in a Tab Delimited Format.
5. When you are ready to import your products click on the Browse button below.
6. A window will appear asking you to locate your product file on your local machine.
7. After you have located the file press the Open button.
8. There are 2 types of uploads available:
A. Update Catalog List or Overwrite Catalog List Update Catalog List will update any changed product information and add new products.
or
B. Overwrite Catalog List will replace the existing catalog file.
Errors in the product file:
If there were any errors during the upload process:
1. The products containing errors will be skipped.
2. A report is created and sent to your administrative email address in real-time.
To avoid any errors during an upload follow the above instructions exactly as specified.
Tab Delimited format
This is how every record (row) of your product file will look after it has been saved as a Tab Delimited file:
Product#(TAB)Description(TAB)Price(TAB)Weight
Every element of the row is separated by a Tab.
Now if you are creating this data file in Excel, each product will go into its own row and each element of that product into its own column. Each product will consist of 1 row and 4 columns for Product#, Description, Price, Weight. Most of the popular spreadsheet and database programs are capable of saving or exporting in Tab Delimited format. It is a widely use file format.
As an experiment:
1. Open a document in Notepad.
2. Type "5555" for the product number.
3. Press the Tab key.
4. Type "test product" for the description.
5. Press the Tab key.
6. Type "1.00" for the price.
7. Press the Tab key.
8. Type "12" for the weight.
9. Press the Return key.
10. Repeat steps 1 - 9 one more time and then save the file as "tab_test.txt".
Congratulations, you have just created a Tab Delimited file in the exact format needed for uploading products into the Buy-Me Button™ catalog. The file you created contains 1 product per line with a total of 2 products.
